I went to jail for a night after calling the police on my older sister who threatened to seriously hurt me and my fragile, ill mother because she got mad when I caught her eating all the baker's chocolate that I bought for a cake my gf (now fiance) was going to make for us. I didn't hit or touch her but she punched me in the throat. I was scared for my mom who is mostly physically disabled and has always been afraid of my sister killing her. But the police came and asked my sister if she felt threatened by me, she said yes, and that was all it took.
Luckily my case was dismissed and all records expunged because the whole thing was bullshit (I wasn't even told what my charges were during the arrest) but I haven't talked to her since and don't intend to.
When I hear the phrase "blood is thicker than water", I can't help but cringe.
