Honey trees require the use of Honey, an item that is completely worthless anywhere else, and require you to wait 8 or so hours between attempts and if you don't , and most of the encounters are complete shitmons except Munchlax is stupidly rare
Nearly all the new evolutions aren't even in the damn regional dex and are postgame only Electivire/Magmortor are especially egregious cases of this require both FireRed and LeafGreen if you want to get both of them, then hunting for a very rare hold item from wild Pokemon.
The type balance is completely fucked, people only talk about the lack of Fire types because of Flint but Sinnoh has fuck all Ice types too despite being colder than Elsa's cunt.
Johto gets memed of leaning on KANTO in terms of Pokemon (again understandable) but Johto didn't have the luxury of existing in a time when generations were concretely separated. Sinnoh's arbitrarily favor's Gen1 Pokémon in its regional dex despite having two other regions to pull from, it also limits itself to a dex of 150 Pokemon solely because KANTO did it.
If Johto is West Kanto, Sinnoh is Johto's mentally challenged hillbilly cousin.
