Pokemon really lost a lot of its' soul when they stopped using the 90s anime style. Back around the time X/Y came out someone did Sugimori style drawings of some of the newer Pokemon and it really made them look better.

The Gen 1 design is kinda shitty too, looking back on it. I just wish Hydreigon wasn't so stupid looking. "It has eyes but not really and its heads are its arms and they aren't heads and its legs are meat curtains flapping in the breeze" is such an awful design, yet it remains one of my favourites despite all of that.
