>>44404233Anon, the thing is, Gamefreak is so convinced that they've made a great story that they've made it the forefront of their game.
>Older games: lore is rarely told to you directly, only in scenes where they're absolutely required. You have to explore the world and talk to NPCs to figure out why things are the way they are (EG: creation of mewtwo in gen 1, burned tower in gen 2, history of hoenn from phoebe's parents in gen 3) >Newer games: you are stopped DEAD in your tracks and forced to watch an incredibly awkward cutscene while an "important" NPC dumps a wall of text onto you, whether you like it or not. In gens 4-5 it was more tolerable because you could just mash a through cutscenes. Then gens 6-8 made you sit through unskippable cutscenes because you'd have to watch stiff animations play out.
These games have shit fucking pacing, and it's all because of the awful way they handle the story. And the worst part? None of the things you've suggested will ever make it into a game, because GF adheres to rules that exist because of the technological limitations of previous games, and because they're too pussy to shake up the status quo.
