>>57301559I don't have any particular fondness for Melee - my first Smash was 64 - but you're completely wrong. 20XX is an old meme. Fox MIGHT BE the best character played entirely optimally, but no one plays anywhere near that high level of play. You simply cannot physically react fast enough to play at that level.
That being the case, there's been a resurgence in Melee's popularity with Slippi bringing in more casual fans into the comp scene who are trying new characters. We've been seeing plenty of Mid Tiers rising up to take tourneys. Yoshi, DK, Link, and Samus have been making waves. Ness is becoming meta relevant as a Puff pocket main to counter her bad matchups. Link is dominating Marth. Hell, there are several Mid tier players in the top 50, and even top 20 now.
Turns out the only really unviable characters are the bottom 7 on the tier list, and even then Mewtwo is being "discovered" as niche but workable.
