>>50453071It was by far one of the hypest points of the show, and the one that attracted the most attention outside and inside the fanbase (/padt/ straight up became a consistent thing because of XY) People posted images of Ash's team or Ash on the lumiose tower all across the internet and the wider fandom actually got excited at the prospect of the anime actually being good, either after the terribleness of BW or from whatever point they dropped the show (usually Johto). The stellar animation, great music, and appeal to Shonen over Kodomo also helped its mainstream appeal, as Shonen is just a better more entertaining category overall (yes, stuff meant for older kids/teenagers will be better than stuff made for little kids. The best Paw Patrol will never be better than the worst Gravity Falls.) The show then proceeded to deliver on that promised hype consistently, until it absolutely fumbled the ending in the worst way possible to the point it sent ripples across the fanbase. It was such terrible ending people have been laughing and seething about it for years, and it remains the biggest problem people have with the series over all. Love it or hate it, XY was the MCU to the rest of the anime's comic Marvel Comics
