And I also beat Ruby a few days ago, but it was pretty simple. I just trained up Blaziken which was all that I needed for the first half. Then trained up Lileep for water mons and gym. And then trained up Spheal after using it as a dive mon. I didn't train any other mons as it was not needed.

It's pretty interesting to build a team based on only 3 mons. I think I had my types covered well too
