I enjoyed the XY manga, mostly as an adaptation of the source material. It does a-lot of what I wish the games had done with its characters and central conflict. Like the ever present threat of Team Flare, with them having a grip on the media and such (Malva was always a newswoman, but the games never did anything with it). Or the kids being on the run after Vaniville Town's destruction, while the rest of Kalos minds their own business. Emma's backstory as a girl living off the streets is also fleshed out a bit. It all helps to create this dirty underbelly for the Region, and lends a bit more validation to Lysandre's fatalistic point of view.
I'm not a big fan of the paneling in this series though. As a manga, it's visually kind of 'Meh'.
