Aight let me explain why the zodiac theory is fucking stupid so you will all understand and stop shitting up this board with you inane autism.
The theory states that Game Freak, for the passed 20+ years, have been arbitrarily confining themselves to fit ONLY the fire-type starters into an arbitrary pattern. Not all three types of starters. Just the Fire-types. For no apparent purpose at all other then......? For fun? To stifle their own creativity?
But, OK, lets say they decided to go with that. Charizard fits in as the Dragon. Sure. It fits the description of the dragon, but thats about it. Its not dragon-type. Its name is also derived from 'Lizard' - and not dragon. So, its not necessarily the best fit ever. But I will concede it.
But then we get to Cyndaquil. Others in this thread have already expressed why cyndaquil is a poor fit for 'rat.' And I am not going to say whether or not I agree with them. The point is, the fact that it is so dubious is PROOF that the Zodiac theory does not fit. If Game Freak - for some reason - was limiting themselves to only having starters be from the zodiac, WHY WOULD THEY MAKE ONE THAT IS SO OBVIOUSLY NOT A FIT? If they wanted each Fire-type starter to (for some reason) fit nicely into the zodiac- why would they NOT just make Cyndaquil an OBVIOUS rat? Why would they go out of their way to make it some porcupine/badge/echidna? It doesn't make any fucking sense.
This is the same case for Fennekin. If they, for some reason, WERE doing the zodiac theory for the passed 3 gens, why would they not just make Fennekin an ACTUAL dog, instead of a fox? You can argue for years whether or not foxes are dogs, but the fact that Game Freak did not make Fennekin an ACTUAL, LITERAL dog (like the previous 3 being literal representations of their respective role) completely destroys the theory. This theory should have died with X/Y.
