Lessening this by admitting that it's inherently imaginary and arbitrary only leads to situations like yours, where the ideal you've fully accepted as soothing but entirely fake is clearly secondary to a more fatalistic and therefore more meaningful primary ideal and goal that you've created for yourself. True, there is no inherent meaning in Vaporeon, but you've assigned inherent meaning to sacrificing your life in order to achieve your goals of societal change (and therefore assigned inherent meaning to your own life as well by proxy).
The common human ultimately must be limited by something in the end in order for any organized system to exist past the most basic of caveman-tier existences. Limiting them by something spiritually palatable would be preferable, which is why I prefer simple nature and fertility worship.
