I like him for the sole reason that he surprised me with a difficulty spike. Other rivals have better teams and arguably personalities, but his battle on the third island, mostly his raichu, swept through my team. He even asked me before the battle, so I was just thinking, "yeah, whatever". That hasn't happened with a rival in a long while for me, so I was impressed.
