Creatonotos gangis
The gross tentacle things are ‘coremata’, pheromone producing organs that most male moths and butterflies have, but the gangis have 4 absolutely massive coremata that are tucked up inside it’s abdomen when not in use. They spread pheromones for kilometres all around, so females can detect virile males from incredibly far off. Interestingly, the main chemical in the pheromones they produce is poisonous to most animals, but as caterpillars they gorge themselves on this chemical. The more they consume as caterpillars, the bigger and smellier their coremata will be after pupating. As such, males who don’t eat enough poison in their youth will have shorter coremata which produce less pheromones and won’t attract mates.
Bug/Poison male only species would make sense.
