Pokemon has always been made popular by pothead normies that were into the pokemon pogs and trading cards. They're the ones that are purely KANTOOO. They're the obsessed Charizardfags and only like "badasses" like Mewtwo and Nidoking.
Gen 2 had less badass pokemon and was focused more on appealing to children, especially girls.
