Okay, I do buy the polyp thing, but this is how I see it.
Basically it's a little skinny broom shaped thing with a bunch of colorful hair that forms the hat and the volume of it's body. The little bit we can see under the hair is its skinny neck that goes all the way to the non hair part on the bottom.
Honestly, kinda creepy thinking of it without the hair.
