>>49535686The anime has had multiple talking non legendary Pokemon and has explicitly said Meowth is smarter than his human friends, so it’s canon that some of them have human intelligence, it’s not a headcanon. They’ve made allusions to Pokemon X Human relationships too, which is pretty cute.
The game canon may as well be an alternate universe. The writers handle Pokemons in a completely different way. I think they have a problem with the idea of smart Pokemons, maybe because they like the idea of a beast tamer series more, so they go out of their way to sabotage the idea of smart Pokemon other than certain legendaries. It’s a way in which the anime is written better than the games. If the games had Pokemon which had as much diversity and personality as the ones from the anime, that would be magical, but the games’ writers intentionally ruin it.
