Black and White 2 was sublime, and the last time a genuine, sincere attempt was made to improve upon what is a Pokemon game. We had:
>Completely new Pokemon that yes, took inspiration from Kanto, but had charm and quirks of their own. They're still memorable to this day on their own merits
>Cinematic camera angles and incredible scenaries (within the DS limitations) that made you feel in a larger than life adventure
>Pushed the limits of the console it was developed for with maps such as Castelia City
>The clash of modernity vs nature
>Charmful, nostalgic music, only second to gold and silver
>The cusp of spritework and animation, Pokemon and battles feel dynamic and alive
>Perfect balance between 2D and 3D, retains the charm of sprites, yet takes advantage of 3D. Doesn't have the uncanny valley problem present in modern Pkmn games, or the plastic aesthetics in 3D pokemon
>Tries to incorporate more story elements. I'll concede it goes too hard with unskippable scenes, but they were trying something new.
>Incredible post-game where you can battle all previous gym leaders and champions from all generations.
I feel sad that they don't have the same innovating spirit they had back then, now it's just stagnation and low effort milking of the franchise. It is objectively true that the series have begun to decay after Pkmn Black and White 2.
Debate.
