Pok are the main characters, they control strange forces, fight, get damaged. The tranier just stands and says something from time to time, although if you think about it, even this is not necessary. In the mecha genre, a special lore was invented so that pilots could feel pain when the robot was damaged. It's easier for the viewer to empathize. The pokemon game's lore was lost almost immediately. Instead of teaching strange creatures, we have sentient, semi-sentient youkai, with no explanation as to how it came to be. Water racing in M5 is even more interesting, there the person and the pok really work together, I would rather play such a game. Summing up, PMD looks more solid, although I can also criticize a lot there.
