Despite being based on the same thing, Tyrannomon is more of a generic "godzilla" style kaiju. This is due to Digimon's origins as a spinoff of/repurposing of sprites from a v-pet game based on kaiju. The virtual pet's sprites weren't changed, but they were given new looks in official art... but as you can see, Tyrannomon was still heavily influenced by Godzilla.
On an interesting note, Tyrannomon was the first digimon ever designed, while it took us six generations to get Tyrantrum. Just found that kinda interesting.
