Let's say ORAS introduces Mega Luvdisc, who is so ridiculously overpowered that it completely dominates competitive play. Maybe it gets an ability that makes secondary effects 100% likely to occur or something. But instead of banning it, Smogon leaves it in OU.
The only way to defeat Smogon Heart consistently is to build an entire team around it, using obscure counters like Oblivious + Substitute Jynx and Shield Dust Venomoth. But any team designed to beat it, and nothing else, will just lose to any "normal" team. So you have a Rock Paper Scissors scenario:
MLuvdisc teams < anti-MLuvdisc teams < Normal teams < MLuvdisc teams
Does this seem fun to you? With decent players, 99% of the time you will be able to look at a team's matchup and know exactly who wins. You may as well not even bother playing.
It's why no one gave a fuck that Numel or Murkrow shat all over Swagplay. If they're dead weight against everything else, it's just going to lead to that stale matchup-based metagame.
