I understand the homage, but the issue is so many environments in LGPE are really, really bright in a weird way. That, combined with the constant up-beat nature of the soundtrack not having "night themes" just makes it really hard to sell Kanto as a real world. GBA games could make do with a lack of a day-night cycle because of the surrealism of pixel art, but LGPE is the only game since gen 4 to lack one and it just makes the "first fully 3d kanto game" feel more like a theme park than a plausible world i'm exploring.
