I don't think the writing is always there, with that sort of "monster of the week" outline from the first several episodes, or Masaru punching baddies to trigger his Soul Charge. But there's just something fun and endearing about it. Masarus is this problematic, scrappy street fighter, yet also something of a family man. Treating his Agumon more like a brother than a Digimon partner was a fun dynamic, and his regular presence in the family with Masaru's mother and sister was just precious.
