For starters, the story has been improved so much. The original SM story struck me as a very poorly thrown together mommy issues story with the ultra beasts and ultra space (that were actually interesting) scattered here and there. It left me wanting more, plus the whole fusion thing with nihilego and lusamine was pretty lame. In USUM however, the story is cleaned up alot. And yes i know the story is 90% the same, but it spaced apart the new bits just enough to keep me interested. I also found myself enjoying the difficulty of the game, and how rewarding it felt when you beat a totem or a kahuna. The new pokemon and new areas really bring the region a new life that it didnt have before, and made me feel like i was actually exploring the islands instead of just walking through a hallway. The new pokemon are great, the postgame is incredible (although i wish it was longer) and the battle agency is pretty fun.
