In all seriousness though, considering that he had to take care of himself since a very young age and that
the professor did seem to... be fond of him in their own way, especially the one you meet at the lake, I don't think that he was a little shit. I could maybe imagine that he had a phase where he tried to be a troublemaker, hoping that it would make his parent pay more attention to him, but I doubt that that would've worked very well either way.
