People just like to identify themselves with a certain belief system because seeing the world as good vs bad makes life a lot easier. Generally they're not worth having a discussion with since they're set on the idea of surperiority over others and assume everything that's opposing them is wrong. Doesn't help that a disturbing amount of pokemon fans think the franchise is a part of their identity
