I found that traversing through Sinnoh was a lot more enjoyable in my recent Platinum playthrough than when I had first played through Pearl as a little zoomzoom. I guess not only because I was in the mood to enjoy it again, but that I could now appreciate areas like Mt. Coronet and Victory Road rather than view them as annoying hassles. Even as a kid, though, I don't think I used a walkthrough to clear those tougher areas. I'm biased because these were my first games, but Sinnoh is probably my favourite region considering its atmosphere and the sheer variety on offer.
I don't really care for Contests and have no idea why they felt like bringing them back from RSE. I don't think I've ever met anyone who genuinely enjoys them. Thankfully they're completely optional.
I still play through Pearl sometimes if I ever feel like chaining for shinies.
