I don't like to play like that because I want to give myself the room to fuck up (which, because I'm impatient and play on a speed-up ROM, I do a lot). But if you're doing the "correct" thing and not leveling up Pokemon that drop below half-HP, grinding is really fucking tedious. I think if you clear out the remaining mandatory fights before a boss fight, and you're below the level caps, I really don't care if you use candies. I don't like to do it, but I'm not gonna shame people for not playing the children's game the "right" way.
