For me, Pokemon means a mostly familiar setting and society, except the animals are different and more fantastical. The retro-futuristic technology was part of the appeal for me, too. Cloning and genetic manipulation, time machines, unique technology like item finder pokedex pokegear technical machines etc, riding a boat or a train, radio, pokegear cellphone. They should have kept Pokegear in every game afterward as a staple, just with new programs for it. Poketch is literally just a pokegear 2.0. And then they even scrapped that. Remember berries? Remember seasons? Remember daily events and day/night differences? Music differences based on time of day. etc. Mail attached to Pokemon. Pokeball seals. Depositing the 100 items you never use. Game Freak doesn't care. It's up to the fans.
Ruby and Sapphire world ending legendary monster: Okay cool.
20 years later with dozens of godzilla "legends": Not compelling or interesting anymore. At least they tried new ideas with Legends: Arceus; even Mystery Dungeon, Snap, Conquest, etc.
