>>49068699If I was running a project as big and alterative as Smogon, for as long as Smogon has been running by now, there are a couple of things I would've done LONG ago that would make these sorts of brouhahah's redundant.
1) Tier moves, abilities, hold items, conditionals (status, weather, terrain etc.) and types. Start with moves first as the obvious one and then work down from there. So much silliness is dodged if you just accept that, alright, Landorus may be strong but if you restrict him to knowing Tackle and such then he's fine. There are many different approaches to this task with their own ins and outs, but really anything would be fine so we don't have to blanket ban entire mons or playstyles ecause of one technicality.
2) Bite the damn bullet and accept that if accuracy and evasion modifiers are in the game yet totally undermine the strategy then it's time to mod. Change all bullshit dice rolls to a mechanism like a build-up with an effect once 100% is reached, or to simple speed modifiers. Again, many approaches but all would be an improvement over the current schizophrenia.
As it is, Smogon can claim to be representing ordinary battling as it happens in the games or organically between players in the slightest. It's silly for them to sit on the fence about this stuff and not take better action. Bans are just ONE tool, and it seems that Smogon staff are emotionally attached to bans and aren't willing to try alternative approaches.
