The idea is to give Electrode a new signature move with power to rival pre-gen 5 Explosion, while also slapping on the Electric type to make some new situations happen (no longer misses on Ghost types, but Ground types instead, and also powers up/down based on other type matchups) while also giving it some unique flavor by making it function a bit like Shell Trap (except the move is guaranteed to work even if Electrode is KO'd, and also KOs Electrode even if the opponent didn't), playing off of Electrode's supposedly volatile nature.
Or maybe it should still be Normal with more base power to compensate to hit that pesky Landorus? Who knows.
