Honestly though, a casual drive through the woods and swerving to avoid a Sawsbuck or something might be a decent start. Maybe MC plans to stay for a day or so on a catching hunt / travelling through and has nibbles like jerky, frozen forest berries, gas station candy and whatnot immediately available.
Leg wound would add to tension traversing the wilds and a slight concussion muddies perception, both possibly influencing further injury and urgency.
It's painfully obvious, but MC could be out seeking signs of other trainers or food and be lured far away from their camp by misinterpretation of Jynx's "human-like" cries or Froslass' yuki onna leanings. Huge loss and tasty drama, maybe leaving them without Pokemon or a fairly weak one in the wrong place at the right time.
