The Gym simulates a dust storm. You have to persevere through a low-visibility environment, navigating the ruins until you can breach the heart of the Gym, which is an enclosed space housing what looks like the remains of an ancient city buried in sand. They congratulate you for having the perseverance to make it this far, but ask you whether you have the mental fortitude to weather the storm yet to come.
This Gym Leader is a former Ruin Maniac who stumbled onto something during a dig that opened them up to mysticism. They are knowledgeable in regards to a number of oddities and legends. Their battle style starting with trainers who have two badges adapts to include using Sandstorm, which all of their Pokemon are immune to damage from, and trainers who have four badges or more are challenged to double battles. Some of their Pokemon also use Future Sight to increase emphasis on damage over time.
