Uh...that's not how romance works. People who have common interests are way more compatible. Than your shipping fantasies. Also Ash and Giselle both have Pokemon League ambitions so they have yet one more thing that makes them suitable for each other.

I wonder why they ignored Hilda, like they could have given her a cameo if even Cheren made an appearance. Leaf got shafted because she wasn't even game canon until Gen 3, even Crys/Marina showed in the anime but not showing Hilda seems to be a deliberate decision on the writers' part.
