>>50219465>tl;dr it essentially comes down to if things between them (the kiss, the childhood meeting, etc etc) have been retconned or completely dropped or no. The episode only gave Ash and her about 40 seconds to interact. The episode gave them a minute to interact because they're characters with baggage when it comes to each other.
And the episode was constantly winking at the audience with the contrivances that kept Ash and Serena from meeting until the very end. It's not like Dawn's first return where there were legitimate plot reasons for them not to meet until the end. The Serena episode kept pulling shit out of its ass to delay their meeting as much as possible while being as self-aware about it as possible by making it all deliberately absurd. You don't tease the audience like that without a reason.
If you wanted to "retcon" amour the easiest way would have been to just put them together for the entire episode and have nothing at all happen, or have Serena refer to Ash as just a friend, or the myriad ways they could have explicitly neutered amour. As it stands it just kept the status quo with it neither being confirmed nor unconfirmed.
