As for dumping/restoring saves you'll use an app called checkpoint (there should be a tab somewhere in the guide with a link to the github), and you'll install it by using a an app called FBI to scan a QR code on the site for an easy install. Checkpoint itself is very easy and straightforward forward to use, you won't need a guide or anything as it will take you like 2-3 minutes your first time. If you have a n3ds I also recommend an program called ftpd, it turns the n3ds into a ftp server so you don't have to take the back of the 3ds off to mess with files on the SD card.
This isn't pokemon related but I also heavily encourage you to install a MarioKart 7 mod called CTGP-7, it adds a ton of new tracks and characters, minor handling changes that makes braking better, and it has working online multiplayer.
