There are plenty of games on the 3DS that can pull off convincing world effects and great art styles and tons of character animation and detail, but XY/ORAS fall very short of them.
Like, look at pic related. It's going for the same "charming and cartoonish" vibe as Pokemon, but does it wayyyyy better.
There really is no valid excuse. Pokemon is one of the biggest media franchises on planet Earth, but it can't even get a game to look good. And not only that, but it can't get its own very mediocre-looking games to even RUN properly without massive framerate drops - that part's the real kicker right there.
