Phos is named after the Zebstrika I used in my first playthrough of Black, and that Zebstrika was named after one of the unicorns pulling the Lightning Chariot in Kid Icarus. It just so happens that "Phos" means "Light," with some strong metaphorical overtones as "the light that contrasts the darkness," of discovered truths, and the pursuit of a higher purpose.
In that same vein, it's also a genus of sea mollusks, so look forward to Phos bumping heads with a Gastrodon someday.
