My favourite gen. BW1 was an interesting start, with the entire new pokedex and an actual story. The new pokedex has Pokemon I definitely dislike but it has many I do like, like Volcarona, Lilligant, Galvantula, Chandelure, Scolipede, etc. The region seemed a little more linear than the grand, adventurous Hoenn and Sinnoh, but still felt like I had things to explore and discover.
There was no big new mechanical change for battles like the addition of abilities or physical/special split, but it definitely wanted to add to the experience of the game with stuff like triple/rotation battles, hidden abilities, seasons that get you to explore previous areas and see how they've changed (also the musical score in autumn is the best), the permanent TMs, the HMs, while not removed, were not as widely needed, so on.
Then BW2 came along. The story is, in my opinion, weaker than the first games, essentially the story of how you slurp up some sloppy seconds of a really cool dude, but the rest is greater. It expanded the region and the access you have before the champion, and included some more things to find, and now that we've become familiar with the new Pokemon, the pokedex has been expanded to include plenty of old favourites. The PWT is not the best replacement for the Battle Frontier but it was something fun to do complimenting the Subway, with a bit of added nostalgia factor which I enjoyed. The Black City/White Treehollow were fun to run through with your favourites and you get an actual nice reward, same with completing the pokedex to get the haxorus.
The sprite work is probably a bit weaker. The overworld looks largely fine, but the overworld sprites have taken a different direction, and the moving battle sprites can be somewhat jarring, but I personally got used to it. Also seeing the eyes close when they're asleep is a nice touch.
Challenge/EZ mode is also a great idea held back by Game Freak's classic retardation.
