The Golden catfish is a weird as fuck "cryptid" (sort of) that people claim to see in South America. It's a catfish made of Gold. There's an actual species of catfish called the "Golden Catfish", but they're different. As I recall, the myth likely the result of people seeing small amounts of gold on catfish. They filter feed along the bottoms of rivers and sometimes eat small amounts of gold or get covered in it because they're covered in mucus and river basins in South America are lousy with natural gold. People took that to it's extreme in story form and claimed to see Catfish made entirely of gold. A golden Catfish is probably more likely just a catfish covered head to toe in Gold dust, something that's never actually been found mind you.
The Golden Catfish cryptid is one of those weird ones that Japan fucking loves for some reason, no idea why. They're just old school like that I guess. It's been in a ton of Japanese video games (Monster Hunter being the most recent).
