That last part always tore at my heart, as Ruby/Sapphire were the last Pokemon games my brother and I played together, some of my fondest memories in my childhood (and life) are playing Pokemon with my brother, and just like my cousin said "No one liked Pokemon" after Ruby/Sapphire because it wasn't cool anymore.
I still thought it was cool. Still do.
