It's a genuine threat on both a worldwide and personal level, wanting to drain all light from the universe and possessing Nebby.
But at the same time, its motives are understandable and hard to find fault in. It's a creature that feeds off of light and suffered a severe injury, and now just desperately wants to heal itself because it's suffering.
There's no high ideals or pseudo-philosophy on either side. It simply needs something that we also need, and we're destined to conflict.
