There's going to be two different types of fossils - WTF and Inaccurate. The WTF-type fossils are going to be based off of really old and strange looking fossils. Think things like Hallucigenia and the Tully Monster. The Inaccurate-type fossils are based off of outdated and weird theories. Like how the Iguanadon was put together. A fire breathing Parasaurolophus, a psychic type Stego because for a time it was believed that they had more than one brain for controlling that tail. A Rock/Fairy type Protoceratops with wings, because there was a silly idea that they're responsible for gryphons.
Stuff like that.
