I'm already busy working on a Metroidvania title that will actually give me money, but I'm planning on making a pokémon fangame on essentials on my free time for the next years. I want a huge map, 10 regions, "open" world. You start in Hoenn and you can go anywhere right on the go, except for the dungeons and some areas, which will be the focus of the game, kinda like A Link To The Past. You unlock these dungeons and areas by progressing the storylines you're in (a few intertwined main ones and lots of sidequests). Wild pokémon found outside dungeons and locked areas will usually be low-leveled com-mons, so the XP and challenge-wise game progression problems found in GSC's Kanto may be solved. Gyms will be balanced too in a way that you can only get 10 badges (no matter from which regions and/or order) before completing most of the main storyline quests.
What do you think? It is unrealistic-ly ambitious, I know, but for now it's only for my entertainment because I really like mapping. If I were to recruit people to help, hm, I would do it only in about two years or so.
