Another Eeveelution. This one's if you kill fifteen Corsola while a Mareanie or Toxapex is in the party.
>Akantheon (Ancient Greek "akanthinos", alluding to the Biblical crown of thorns + -eon)
>Poison/Water
>Abilities: Merciless / Baneful Barbs [HA] (Poisons attackers that hit it with a contact move)
>Stats: 65 HP / 110 ATK / 130 DEF / 65 SPA / 95 SPD / 60 SPE
>"Its jaw is especially adapted to crunching down on CORSOLA's tough body. The fluorapatite enamel coating its teeth can withstand more than 500 tons of pressure per square inch."
>"The numerous spines covering its body are filled with a horribly potent hemolytic neurotoxin. It's not recommended to touch this POKéMON without special protective gloves on."
I wanted to do something different from Toxapex that still becomes pretty annoying to deal with. It doesn't have the absurd bulk that Toxapex does, nor does it have Regenerator for pivoting shenanigans. However, Baneful Barbs functions as a permanently active Baneful Bunker, which is really nice for punishing choiced physical attackers and priority abusers. An unconventional set that I could see working here that doesn't work with Toxapex is this:
Vaporeon @ Choice Band
Ability: Merciless
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature
- Liquidation
- Poison Jab
- Crunch
- Payback
With Trick Room and Toxic Spikes support, Akantheon becomes a really fast, formidable physical sweeper with 525 Atk. Payback is for if you're caught in a situation where you don't have Trick Room up, although in most situations you'd just want to use Liquidation or Poison Jab.
