>>57483768Fire always tears shit up in the early game regardless of which types the gym leaders use, since most of the PvE for the first 25% of the game are always wild Bug and Grass types along with trainers who use them like Bug Catchers, Youngsters, Lasses, etc. Grass, on the other hand, is almost always the worst starter pick due to the abundance of aforementioned enemy Grass and Bug types, along with Poison and Flying types like Pidgey and Zubat. Bulbasaur making Gen 1 easy is just a meme parroted by casuals who don’t understand the game beyond basic type matchups and spamming STAB attacks to try to solo the whole game with the starter. Nobody ever actually had a problem defeating Brock with Charmander anyway. His Geodude and Onix have terrible Special Defense, and lack STAB Rock Throw due to being so low leveled. Fire is almost always the best starter choice with few exceptions.
