At the end of the day, Smash players from both sides of the spectrum tend to enjoy the games in similar ways.And that way has changed for the worse since around ten years ago. If I were to attend the local Smash weekly tomorrow (and I probably will) and ask for some items-on free-for-all matches in between or after the weekly serious business 1v1 tournament matches, I'd probably just get weird looks instead of enthusiastic participants willing to indulge in the other fun parts of the game besides that competitive setting.
