>>42661905I'm the same. Started in gen 1 during peak pokemania, the "cartoon" and cards were everywhere, Gameboys banned in schools. I played all of the games more-or-less as soon as I could get them, usually for Christmas the year they came out. I played Diamond and thought it felt hollow and painfully slow, and Sinnoh was the least interesting region at the time. Then gen 5 came along and was perfection.
That said, HGSS is also up there, but I don't tend to count remakes as what defines the generation.
