If they aren't going to do something drastic to freshen it up, make it geographically interesting and add facilities and features, it would be hard to care. An even better question to ask is 'why remake a game a second time?'
I don't hate gen 1, but it's been nearly 20 years since Red and Green were first released and they just wouldn't hold up if they made a faithful remake.
