- Plot is a sad excuse. RPGs should be as dark as possible, it's almost a rule of thumb.
- Single player gameplay is poor. Almost no strategy is needed to beat the last game (unless you go self-imposed challenges); multiplayer can be fun if you can endure hundreds of hours of Biking Simulator 2014.
- Absolutely. No. Sidequests. Fun ideas can be Pokemon with hidden abilities and such, to keep the game fresh.
- Extremely linear gameplay.
- Obligatory battle with legendaries. Those things should not be catchable if required by plot, and be a bitch to defeat.
- Gyms and Elite Fours should not be monotype, so you have to be a prepared team to counter their strategies. They should be more like online games.
In gameplay Pokemon games are shit, it's a fact. Their appeal is another. What they do great is attaching the player with some of the characters (in this case, Pokemon).
Also, designs for all tastes: cute mons and edgy mons. That's why there's SO MANY Pokemon fanart.
And that's why we're all here.
