Personally, I like that the writing team is taking risks and doing different things. We might get one of the greatest tearjerker episodes out of the show in a long time out of this.
A lot of the release episodes in the past were pathetic, where Ash just went "ok bye" like with Pidgeot or Primeape. Then you had Ambipom which was even worse because it suddenly had a new passion in life out of fucking nowhere.
They developed Goomy's character over several episodes, established the backstory, and now we get a two-parter to conclude it. Obviously I'd like it if he came back for the league or something but I think it's great they're trying to tell a story here.
