>>35106929Genuinely speaking, I'd be better off saying what I didn't like about Gen 5. Everything about it - game feel, designs, music, region, rivals - it's all my favourite of the series. Especially the monster designs. I genuinely love all but a very small handful of designs, most of said handful having a lukewarm reception as opposed to dislike.
So, for what I didn't like? Gym leaders and Elite 4 being reduced to 3 and 4 max Pokemon respectively is inexcusable. Some of the Pokemon animations, while I have a soft spot for sprite tweening, are also inexcusable. Starmie is probably the biggest offender for this. Lastly, there were far too many characters for the story and they ended up as fodder. It feels like GameFreak wanted to go and make a hefty, long game but were too afraid of leaving the formula to do so. This resulted in quite a few characters who were probably intended to have much bigger roles end up underutilized, namely "The Seven Sages", Shadow Triad, Anthea and Concordia. The sisters in particular make this all too evident, it was clear that they were intended to have a lot more involvement with N's backstory but nothing comes from it.
